L-Tyrosine is an essential amino acid formed from Phenylalanine via the enzyme phenylalanine hydroxylase.

This amino acid acts as a precursor to catecholamines (Epinephrine, Norepinephrine, and Dopamine), highlighting its importance in regulating the nervous system. Catecholamines are neurotransmitters involved in alertness, focus, relaxation, and mood.

Additionally, L-Tyrosine is required for the synthesis of thyroid hormones, particularly thyroxine (T4), which regulates metabolism. Therefore, this amino acid supports endocrine functions, including both thyroid and adrenal activity.

Melanin is a protein-based substance that protects thy skin from UV rays and acts as a pigment. Its production occurs in melanocytes—skin cells—specifically in an organelle called the melanosome. This pigment results from tyrosine catabolism, which, after enzymatic action, reacts with molecular oxygen to form a precursor molecule of melanin.

It’s also worth noting that tyrosine is a precursor to Coenzyme Q10, which is involved in ATP production—the body’s cellular fuel—and also acts as a powerful antioxidant.

Human studies suggest that Tyrosine may enhance mental performance under environmental stress.

Other research highlights its role in dermal vasoconstriction, helping to maintain body temperature even under cold stimuli.

Further studies suggest benefits for cognitive flexibility, showing reduced reaction time and fewer errors when switching between tasks—possibly due to increased dopamine levels.
