Acetylcysteine, also known as N-acetylcysteine (NAC), is a pharmacological agent primarily used as a mucolytic (to reduce mucus viscosity) and in the treatment of paracetamol/acetaminophen overdose.

NOW® NAC (N-Acetyl Cysteine) is a stable form of the essential amino acid L-Cysteine. Cysteine supports the synthesis of Glutathione, one of the most important and powerful natural detoxifiers in the body, especially for the liver. Glutathione contributes to the detoxification of xenobiotics. Vitamin C plays a key role in maintaining Glutathione in its reduced form so it can continue to neutralize free radicals.
